STRACO2 will establish a regulatory framework for CCS in the EU, and more specifically initiate efforts to draft policies and regulations for CCS technology development and deployment in China. Research will be done on how CCS would qualify in the Kyoto Flexible Mechanisms and EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU-ETS) enabling the wide-scale commercial deployment of CCS.
The EU and other regions of the world are highly interdependent regarding climate change. STRACO2 will assist the formation of a common approach to a common problem by furthering international cooperation in the area of CCS.
The Project is designed to create solutions that are not only of global environmental interest but also support the EU’s global competitiveness in CCS technologies. STRACO2 will contribute to the adoption of best international technologies and practices through the active participation of international industry and enterprise in its activities. It will facilitate increased collaboration on CCS in the international context which is necessary for CCS to become an important instrument in the global fight against climate change.
STRACO2 research is designed to assist in the transition between presently available industrial technologies and future near-zero emission power plants, with new power generation units that are ready for future CCS technologies.
